I bought a guitar in college, with hopes of learning to play. All it cost me was my flute from high school and liquidating my savings. Clint and I had been dating nearly 3 years by then and he knew pretty much all there was to know about me. So I thought I would catch him off guard on Valentine’s Day, by a serenade with my newly aquired secret.
The plan was to write a song, lyrics and all, and meet him at the park on Valentine’s Day to show-off. Oh ya, and to learn to play the guitar! What lay ahead was 6 months of secret lessons with my stepdad, hiding the guitar from Clint, and praying that my roommate wouldn’t spill the beans. (thanks Michelle)
Finally Valentine’s Day arrived. I only knew 2 songs by then. “On Top of Old Smokey” and the one I had written. :-)  (and no, I won’t tell you anything about it.) I beat Clint to the park, planning to light candles and perch myself on a bench before his arrival. (it was a real John Mayer moment, i know) But to my dismay, the wind was blowing to beat the band! When Clint got there, I played the song I wrote on the guitar he didn’t know I had. Can I just say that the song was horrible and I can’t even write this out almost 10 years later without being embarrassed! But Clint was a great sport and pretended to love it.
Since then, I have been moving that guitar around with me, tucking it away in a new closet every couple years. But tonight I finally sold it. I had completely forgotten that whole story until I saw the lyrics to that goofy song as I was cleaning out the case.

About Me
Heidi Jo:
wife, mama, baker, teacher, crafter, collector.

Only good things happen in a house decorated with polka-dots that smells like dessert!

God has blessed me…….

I love my geek, our kids, flowers, tinted paint, white dishes, and flavored creamer with a little coffee. The best sound in the whole world is a little one waking you with "mama", although it is more appealing
after 5am.

"Luck favors the prepared, Darling."
